Horikita Maki at the premiere of “Byakuyakou” in Berlin

Horikita Maki was in Berlin to attend the premier screening of her new movie, “Byakuyakou” (International title: “Into the White Night“), at the “61st Berlin International Film Festival“.
Shortly after the screening, the first pictures of the actress arriving at the cinema made it onto the web, showing her in beautiful shoulder-less dress braving the cold. Fans and autograph hunters were delighted to see her in such a good mood despite still visibly suffering from the jet lag and a busy day covering her stay for Japanese TV.
It is not known whether Horikita plans to stay in Berlin for another day, but her movie will continue to screen at the festival three more times. However, online tickets are only left available for its final screening on February 19th. Her trip to Berlin could end up rather short due to her tight schedule, and she plans to be the talking about her first experience at an international film festival on the coming news and talk shows in Japan. “Mezamashi TV” was with her in Berlin to record every step for a special to be aired on Tuesday.
Since “Byakuyakou” is screening as part of the “Panorama” category, and it isn’t part of the festival’s official competition, Horikita won’t be able to have a chance to succeed Terjima Shinobu, who won a Silver Bear for “Best Actress” for her movie “Caterpillar” at last year’s festival. Director Fukagawa Yoshihiro, Horikita, and her co-star, Kora Kengo, can still keep their fingers crossed though, as they are in contention to win a “FIPRESCI” award and/or the very popular “Panorama Audience Award”, where viewers are able to vote locally and online for their favorite film within the said category.
