Taste the Flavors of Korea

Unexpected roadtrips + sudden cravings for foreign dishes + inspired FAPFAP~ing = Awesome Adventure at St. Paul ^_^

Ok its not what your thinking.. hush yourself this is what it means:
F.A.P.F.A.P = Food Adventure Program For Awesome People

This brilliant acronym came from the awesome Canadian couple (Simon and Martina and their adorable dog, Spudgy) who are living in Korea and sharing their wonderful adventures and discoveries about Korea---Kpop, Food, Cultures, Habits, etc.

Want to know what its like to live in Korea and what to expect subscribe/watch their YouTube videos or visit their website --> http://www.eatyourkimchi.com/

Craving to eat some korean dishes -- Bibimbap and Bulgogi!, I decided to drive (courageously) to St. Paul with my pretty cousin tagging along with me. I admit I'm not a good driver, scared in merging and changing lanes, bad at parking and doesn't like driving in the freeway (specially in the rush hour) but because of my handy~dandy GPS I was able to overcome those fears.. ^_^

So after doing a little research on what's the most recommended korean restaurants (and closest) around the area I live, I found this really cool website for the Mirror of Korea restaurant.

http://www.mirrorofkorea.com/index.html
It had an average rating of 4 stars from various websites that made a review about the restaurant itself. The website showcases the beautiful interior of the restaurant. I've got to say kudos to the photographer for the wonderful shots but really when you get to see it in person it looks just like a plain small korean restaurant...

Since the pictures in the website gives the impression and feeling of a cozy restaurant, I didn't expect it too be too plain and honestly I didn't feel the ambiance that I was getting from the website..

We arrived at the restaurant quite late that its almost closing time so we only get to order a take-out. On the way back to the car, for some weird reason the food smelled like rotten egg but when we got home and took it out of the bag the smell disappeared. The food actually smelled good and the side dishes were odorless.

Here's what we got:

Korean Side Dishes:
Bean Sprout Salad Recipe (Sookju Namul)
Korean Radish Cube Kimchi (Kaktugi)
Mu Namul (Korean Radish Namul)
Stir Fried Fish Cake (Odeng Bokkeum)
Kimchi

Bi Bim Naeng Myun
Chilled buckwheat noodles prepared in red pepper sauce with beef and vegetables

Dahk Bul Go Gi
Boneless chicken marinated in chef's secret sauce

Bi Bim Bob (before mixing)
Steamed white rice mixed with red pepper sauce, an assortment of seasoned vegetables, beef and fried egg

Bi Bim Bob (after mixing)

The food was good. It was spicy and has interesting flavors into it. Though we weren't a big fan of the side dishes since we weren't really used to it. Because of their large servings we weren't able to finish it. We we're delighted with the first spoonful(s) and then after a while you just get tired of the taste then before you know it you're already full.

So will we stop by again in the restaurant?? maybe... if there's another craving for a korean dish or better yet have another adventure in a different restaurant.. whatever comes in mind...

^_^

Still so FULL!!! <burp!>
